ELECTION OF DR. RON BENNER - AOA Vice President


Ronald Benner, O.D.

Ronald L. Benner, O.D., was elected to the American Optometric Association Board of Trustees at the 118th Annual AOA Congress & 45th Annual AOSA Conference: Optometry's Meeting in June 2015 and elected to the office of Vice President during the 124th Annual AOA Congress & 51st Annual AOSA Conference: Optometry's Meeting in June 2021.As a member of the AOA Board of Trustees, Dr. Benner serves as chair of the Finance Committee and as a member of the Executive Committee, Investment Committee, and the 401(k) Committee. He is liaison to the Content Review Board, Education Committee, and the Quality Improvement and Registries Committee. Dr. Benner is also the board liaison to the Council on Research, the Association of Regulatory Boards of Optometry and to the affiliate associations of Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, West Virginia state affiliates, University of Pikeville College of Optometry and University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry. Dr. Benner's past board work includes serving as liaison to the Contact Lens and Cornea Section, Faculty & Student Membership Liaisons, Membership Development Committee, InfantSEE & Children's Vision Committee, Vision Rehabilitation Committee, AOA Excel, Federal Relations Committee, State Government Relations Committee, Third Party Center Executive Committee. He also served on the AOA-Political Action Committee (AOA-PAC), serving as chair from 2010 to 2015.  A past president of the Montana Optometric Association (MOA), Dr. Benner has held numerous roles within the MOA, as well as within the Great Western Council of Optometry, serving as chair of the board of directors. Dr. Benner has been honored with the MOA Young Optometrist of the Year Award, MOA Distinguished Service Award and, twice, MOA Optometrist of the Year Award.A graduate of Pacific University College of Optometry, Dr. Benner has been active in his community, serving in numerous civic and faith-based organizations.Dr. Benner owns and operates a private practice clinic in Laurel, Montana.

Important Information Regarding Continuing Education for the 2020/2021 Renewal Cycle


The Board of Optometry determined at the August 11th, 2020 board meeting that due to the Covid-19 emergency and the limited availability of in-person CE offerings, the board will not perform a CE audit for the 2020/2021 renewal cycle.  Although a CE audit will not be performed, the board acknowledges and recognizes that continuing education is an important part of continued competency and strongly encourages licensees to seek and utilize other methods of course delivery in order to stay up to date with their continuing education.
